The dream of many students and individuals is to become self-employed. Results of a US Department of Commerce study show that students’ strong interest in starting a business derives from the freedom associated with being their own boss. According to a Gallup Poll study done in conjunction with the Ewing Marion Kauffman Foundation, 7 out of 10 students say they want to start their own business. Entrepreneurs generate ideas; produce goods, services and jobs; and produce the economic activity that drives the local economy. Despite the widespread acceptance of the key role small businesses and entrepreneurs play in our economy, many institutions of learning are not preparing our young people for careers as business owners. They are overwhelmingly being prepared for a life of working for someone else. In today’s rapidly changing economic climate not everyone is going to be able to find that “good job with a good company.”
The Participating In Entrepreneurship (PIE™) Academy is making high schools, colleges, community based organizations and public entities aware of the possibilities offered by entrepreneurship education & training, and providing the knowledge, skills, tools and resources to start, manage and grow a business.
Member of the PIE Academy are provided access to ongoing support to start, manage and grow their businesses. We are committed to building skills and building successful careers as business owners. Get on board and take you business from Good-to-Great in 2022 (G2G2022).
The Challenge: Yes, 2021 was a challenge.
Although 2021 was a challenge, in the words of Jim Collins, entrepreneurs “Built to Last”. Studies of the entrepreneurial mindset is a reflection of “how great companies triumph over time and how long-term sustained performance can be engineered into the DNA of an enterprise from the very beginning.” It all starts with the right mindset and the resources to execute, execute, execute.
But what about the entrepreneurs who may not be aware of the greatness in their company’s DNA and the ability to execute? How can entrepreneurs take good companies, mediocre companies, even bad companies to the next level of greatness? Our theme for the New Year is G2G2022-Let’s Make It Happen!
